About Nahargarh Fort

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built the fort in 1734. It formed a defensive ring for Jaipur alongside Amer and Jaigarh forts. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh expanded the complex significantly in 1868.

The main palace is Royal Summer Retreat. This royal summer retreat contains 12 identical suites for queens and one for the king. Corridors connect the rooms so the king could visit one queen discreetly.

Outside the palace, you will find ancient water harvesting systems. The Fort Grounds include a deep, zigzag stepwell. Visitors often walk the walls at sunset for clear views of the city below. Read our guide on Sunset Viewing Tips for the best vantage points.

I had a very nice tour wit Aadil who showed me Nahargarh Fort and the other attractions that are illuminated at night. I would definitely recommend doing the tour with. He is very friendly and let me decide how long to stay in each place.

I had a good experience with my driver Amin, he drove safely, let me spent my time accordingly in each places visited. It is really recommended for solo traveller to take this private night tour, just be cautious that there will be some expected traffic jam at night around the center.

This was such an excellent walking tour, with a super knowledgeable guide, who had deep expertise in water systems of Rajasthan. Neeraj’s story telling was captivating, and filled with facts and info delivered in a compelling way which was easily digested. Strongly recommend!

The walk was amazing. Neeraj was very attentive from the time I enquired about the walk. He has done some great research, and the walk is not a typical heritage walk. It brings in history through the story of water in Jaipur. I happened to meet a fellow traveller, and we had a great time. The walk was slow and gave ample time to take breaks. The whole experience was conversational and not one-way, which was amazing.

Ashok and Hemanth gave us the best tour of Jaipur. They were accommodating, flexible, and knowledgeable about multiple point in and around Jaipur. Though the heat was scorching, Ashok made sure to find us shade to chat about various monuments. I would book them again and refer them to anyone visiting the city. Big plus if you’re into photography as Ashok is a master behind the lens.
